Recognizing its divine presence, he established a shrine at the site, which later evolved into the grand temple.
Although the exact date of the temple’s original construction remains unknown, references in ancient Puranic texts indicate that it dates back several centuries. The temple suffered extensive damage during the invasion led by Malik Kafur in 1310 CE. Restoration began in the late 14th century when Hindu rulers regained control. The magnificent structure seen today was largely built between 1623 and 1655 CE, during the Nayak period.
